I'm rather interested in giving this game a go, but from what I can tell the only way you can get a trial is from someone who has the game. Is there any other trials available, and with the trial from another person, would I need the game discs or can the client be downloaded? If I need the discs, I'll likely just pick it up next time I'm at the mall, if not, anyone have a trial key they want to give me? ;)

There's a 14 day free trial and a 10 day free pass. Download and install for the 14 day free trial. I've a trial key if the 14 day trial is no longer avaliable. For me, I'm currently waiting for a way for me to be able to pay the subscription fee, but I love this game.

I report badge farmers so that way they can't get their precious Matrix badges, among others. Abide by our rules, and do not spam up areas just because you think they're dead. I read dead areas frequently to report badge farming, as it's strongly frowned upon, and necroing is against the rules.

The free trial is temporarily closed, since they just released the expansion. It'll probably open up again in a few weeks.

Few weeks have passed, and there's no sing of trial yet... Unfortunately.
Hmmm is there any possibility of playing LOTRO? Some kind of buddy key obtained from account on turbine.com (long ago I heard about something like that...)

EDIT: Damn, there is trial... Strange, because I was searching for this before Christmas and I found nothing...

Looks like the codemaster site is the UK version. I am still looking for a US trail version.

I don't think they seperated NA and Europe servers like WoW did. I used that link and got my trial running just fine.

That or I'm playing on the European servers heh.

EDIT: The free trial link posted above is indeed for the European client, so don't go upgrading your account through it unless that's where you live/want to play.

Sooo, if anyone on the US servers has a buddy key they want to toss me lemme know.

I'm tempted because I love LotR, but is this just another MMO?

@Kermi,

You could say all MMO's are.. "just another MMO" then again I think personally that LOTRO has a lot to offer. It's not typical in that for example there is no in world PVP, there is PVP but not between the normal world. It's called PvMP (Player vs Monster Player) and offers a break from normal questing.

Questing in LOTRO in my humble opinion is much more interesting than in many of the other MMORPGs. In LOTRO you feel (at least I do) more part of the integral storyline than you would in other games. Every quest you do and solve brings you closer to the fellowship, a red-line that keeps coming back to you everywhere. You are following the fellowship and from time to time you will be bumping in to some of it's members and some key figures in the LotR lore. I can still remember the first time in the game I stood before Tom Bombadil and just watching the cheery little fellow as he jumped around singing his songs.

Whether or not you feel it is similar to other MMOs, that's entirely up to you, so I would say, give the trial a whirl..if you don't like it...at least you tried. :P

A ten day trial is available on http://www.lotro.com/trial/
This is the US version, if you're European you can visit www.lotro-europe.com
There is a link somewhere down there.

There's a trial now?
I might come and give it a go, since I haven't played since Beta and didn't really care for it.

Make sure you choose the right class though. I used two free trials a while ago..with one of them I had a great time, the other bored me enough to make me quit after an hour or so.

warcraft is the god ;) WoW however is still pretty epic, although its kinda hard to compare the two as they belong to two different genres.

You might want to check the extensive review dirk45 made for the game

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.104729

Else than that, i suggest you play the trial if you wanna see first-hand how the game is.
